Andrea Román, an East London based designer. Andrea grew up in Mexico, a country with a high density of pottery communities, which made her curious about this ancient production method. She studied product design in Mexico City, specialising in industrial production of ceramics, the one that has to do with slip casting and mass production. Now she lives in London, where she works part time as a potter, and part time with product and graphic design projects.
All of Andrea's work is hand thrown over the wheel, and then trimmed, fired, glazed and fired again, and sometimes again. Andrea throws with texturised clays and she makes her own mixtures. Andrea's work represents the earth, the rocks and the mud beneath our feet. She aims to generate interesting contrasting surfaces between the coarseness of the clay and the smoothness of the glaze.
