Broken pottery
A set of gloves
1 Kintsugi porcelain repair kit containing gold and adhesive
1 plastic work surface
2-4 popsicle sticks for mixing
1 thin painting brush
How do you repair Kintsugi?
Step 1: Begin the Kintsugi work by mapping out the pieces of broken pottery. You may have to mend smaller pieces first and then attach them to the larger pieces later.
Step 2: Mix a small amount of porcelain glue with gold from the porcelain repair kit
Step 3: Apply the glue to the first edge of your broken pottery, hold it together and let it dry. Repeat the process until your pottery is mended into one piece. A small tip from us; finish one repair at a time, it makes the whole repair easier to control.
Step 4: Take your thin brush and paint with the gold along the visible rifts of your pottery to conceal the glue with gold.
Step 5: If repaired correctly, set to dry for at least 48 hours for the glue to damp. Enjoy your new beautiful piece of Kintsugi porcelain!
You can use the kintsugi kit multiple times. Let us create and treasure the beauty of imperfection!
What is Japanese Kintsugi?
Kintsugi (Japanese: 金継ぎ) is a Japanese technique used for repairing broken pottery with gold or silver. Kintsugi translates to “golden repair” with the signs “kin” (金) meaning money or gold, and “tsugi” (継ぎ) meaning joining or connection. The art of Kintsugi is a manifestation of the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, which celebrates the flaws and imperfections of the world.

The origin of Kintsugi
Kintsugi may have originated in the late 15th century in Japan. The story goes that the Japanese shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, had sent his damaged pottery to China for repairs. When the pottery was returned to him, the Chinese had to the shogun’s distaste repaired it with metal staples. Therefore, he ordered his craftsmen to create a new and more aesthetic technique for repairing the broken set of china.
Kintsugi became very popular throughout all of Japan. Some collectors even deliberately started smashing their pottery so the porcelain could be repaired with the gold seams of kintsugi.
